encapsulation of naja –naja oxiana snake venom into poly (lactide-co-glycolide) microspheres

Authors
abstract

one small-scale double emulsion technique for incorporation of naja- naja oxiana venom into poly (lactide-co-glycolide) (plga) microspheres were developed and optimized. the effects of high speed homogenization on the double emulsion stability, microsphere size, entrapment efficiency and in vitro release of venom were studied. a stable double emulsion was verified by homogenization method. slow removal of the organic phase allowed measurement of the size of the emulsion droplets and subsequent predication of the size which resulting microspheres. microspheres in the size range of 1-10µm were prepared using homogenization technique, but this technique was sensitive to changes in the operating time, speed and volume of outer aqueous phase. snake venom was released in vitro in a triphasic manner. after immunization of guinea–pig with a single im injection, the plga-venom microspheres elicited an antibody response very high as that elicited with conventional method. these results indicate that the antigenicity of venom was retained after incorporation into plga microspheres using homogenization technique.

Acute Effects of the Iranian Snake (Naja Naja Oxiana) Venom on Heart

The myocardial effect of snake venoms is considered as one of the most common pathogenesis in many cases of snake envenomation. This study was under taken to investigate the effects of snake (Naja naja oxiana) venom on cardiac function in experimental animals. The blood samples from all the rabbits were collected before venom injection and then 140 µg/kg venom of snake (Naja naja oxiana) was in...

Identification and isolation of immunodominant proteins of Naja naja (Oxiana) snake venom

Snake venom is a complex mixture of proteins, peptides, enzymes, carbohydrates, and minerals. They contain a variety of chemicals with pharmacological and toxicological properties. The innate immune system is the first line of defense against toxins and microbes. Antibacterial and anticancer proteins produced by snake venom have recently attracted significant attention due to their relevance to...

The Effect of Snake Venom (Naja naja oxiana) on Proliferation Rate of cancer Cells

Aims Because cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, finding a better way to treat it seems essential. Doxorubicin is one of the most common drugs in the treatment of cancer, which has many negative and toxic effects. Therefore, efforts to produce effective anticancer drugs through screening natural compounds, such as animal toxins continue. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Na...

Anticancer Activity a of Caspian Cobra (Naja naja oxiana) snake Venom in Human Cancer Cell Lines Via Induction of Apoptosis

Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. Current anticancer drugs involve various toxic side effects; efforts are ongoing to develop new anticancer agents especially from the screening of natural compounds. Present study investigated cytotoxic effects and mode of cell death induced by the Caspian cobra venom in some human cancer cell lines. Cytotoxic effects of snake venom toxins (SVT) w...

Structural-functional studies of peptides derived from a long-chain snake neurotoxin Naja naja oxiana

Introduction: The design and structural characterization of mini-proteins with a compact, folded structure provide insight into the complex architecture of proteins today and has long been a challenging issue in structural- functional studies. Alpha neurotoxins from snake venom have a distinct folded structure comprised of a disulphide core and three loops or “fingers” each of these loops are c...
